Unravelling the Mindful Myths 🧵
#1
“It’s a quick fix”
It’s a lifelong learning experience. Not one and done. Like a distance runner, we build mindful muscle.
#2
“There’s ‘no thinking’ in Mindfulness”
Thinking is never the enemy in mindfulness. We can witness them without labelling and
not follow the story.
#3
“Passive”
Mindfulness isn’t disengaging from life. It’s curious & open connection with the world and others daily.
#4
“All about me”
An investment in self-care + being mindfully aware builds empathy and compassion for others too.
#5
“No time”
We can all find 5 mins to pay attention. More mindful mins = more space. We rewire our brains for healthy habits.
#6
“Avoiding problems”
Our emotional difficulties soon surface in presence. We witness non-judgementally treating with self-compassion, not denial.
#7
“Only sitting”
won’t make you mindful! Paying attention to your experience ‘now’ as you sit, stand, eat or walk, will.
#8
“Easy”
We notice how much we live in future and past. Our struggles too. Living more ‘now’ is never easy.
#9
“Just relaxing”
Yes we gain tools and strategies to relax & de-stress. But growth in awareness is our path to root causes.
#10
“No science”
The evidence base grows daily. But not as fast as ‘your’ mindful experience. We learn to trust this.
